A stun gun is an electroshock weapon which operates by administering an electrical shock via small metal probes, usually located on the end of the device, to incapacitate an assailant.  Stun guns use a high voltage, low amperage charge to disrupt a body's muscle triggering mechanism.  Once activated, an attacker will feel pain and momentary paralysis while the shock is being applied.  The longer the charge is applied to the attacker, the longer it takes the person to regain their composure, thus allowing time for the victim to escape.

Once applied, the attacker will suffer seizure like symptoms, causing their muscles to twitch uncontrollably.  Stun Guns should be considered a last resort, as they require a person to be in close proximity with their attacker.  Avoiding confrontations and suspicious suspects is always a persons best defense against an attack, but for those times when confrontation cannot be avoided, stun guns offer a viable alternative to lethal force.
